BANGALORE: It falls on the sharp noses of Arya, Soumya and their squad to pave the way for Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and President A P J Abdul Kalam, who are visiting the city this Saturday.
Minutes before the Presidents touch down at the Bangalore airport, a team of 12 sniffer dogs from the Karnataka Police Canine Squad will begin round-the-clock work with four bomb detection and disposal teams to secure roads and areas to be visited by the dignitaries.

What eludes the human eye is often sniffed out by man's best friend and the relationship between man and beast has provided the police force with more teeth.
The canine squad will work along with the bomb detection and disposal squads of the city and state police, the MEG and a team from another military wing of Pune to ensure the safety of VVIPs in scanning long stretches of roads, venues of functions, private aircraft and various offices in the dignitaries' itinerary.
Amid attending to bomb scares, which mostly turn out to be hoax, these dogs will be a busy lot, thanks to all states being on red alert following terror strikes in Jammu and Kashmir and elsewhere.
"All the dogs are well trained and are prepared to meet any contingency. The handlers too are ready for the challenge," inspector Narasimaiah, incharge of the canine squad, said.
A senior police officer in-charge of security, said that four teams comprising 15 personnel will work on a gruelling shift from 7 am to 8 pm during the VVIPs visit.

Twelve dogs will be drawn for the four teams from the state police canine squad. While the teams from MEG and Pune have the expertise in handling electronic gadgets that detect explosives, the police teams will provide the logistics as they are familiar with the city's topography and will also handle other equipment.
An emergency team is always on stand-by even at night, the officer said. "A combination of sniffer dogs, electronic gadgets and human intelligence ensures an efficient system to secure areas," DCP VVIP Security R Ramesh said.
